Riders tested their metal in last weekend’s West Suffolk Wheelers 21 mile timetrial from Risby, Bury St Edmunds, an already challenging hilly course made even tougher by 45mph winds.
CCBreckland was well represented by super Vet Chris Nudds who took second on standard, in a time of 00:56:20 / +5:34. Opting for a road bike to tackle the blustery cross winds, Mark Fairhead battled to a time of 1:02:01 with Nick Parvanni finishing in 1:05:00.
26-year-old John Mulvey of ActiveEdgeRT took the victory by more than three and a half minutes in a time of 00:46:10, with Leon West (CC Sudbury) and Simon Daw (Datalynx-Parenesis Cycling) completing the podium. In the women’s category Rosamund Bradbury (Sigma Sport) took a commanding win in 00:55:21 from Jen Smart (Team VeloVelocity) and Maura Brown (West Suffolk Wheelers).
The previous weekend, in equally tough conditions with the addition of persistent rain, saw CCB’s Dave Green take on the Bedford Autodrome Duathlon, his first non-bike event in 20 years.
Beginning with a 10km run, Dave posted a time of 00:45:53 which placed him mid-pack in 71st position, but as he clicked through the gears his strength on the bike came to the fore posting the 4th fastest 39km bike leg of the day. Finishing with a further 5km run in 00:25:09, Dave crossed the line to win his age group by nearly 6 minutes and finish 38th of 103 finishers.
