Warm and sunny conditions buoyed riders in what for many was the last blast of the season in this weekend’s 50 mile time trial held on the B50/20 between Snetterton and Whymondham.
Despite a delayed start after an accident at the Attleborough roundabout, there was no holding back the eventual winner Matthew Senter who beat fellow Team Velo Velocity rider Ben Stancombe by just over a minute to finish in a time of 1:39:38. Stancombe’s time of 1:40:44 was a further 5 minutes ahead of 3rd placed Tom Thornely of Buxton CC who finished in 1:46:13.
Breckland was well represented by long distance specialist Dave Green who finished in 1:47:11 and took 2nd Vets on Standard behind Matt Ivings of Buxton CCwith David Shepherd of a3crg 3rd on Standard. In his first ever 50, CCB’s Adam Cross followed in 1:52:46 with Mark Fairhead knocking over 2 minutes off his previous best with 2:02:50. Local rider and regular face at Breckland events, Ride Harder’s James Walsgrove put in a strong performance to break the 2 hour mark with a time of 1:59:27.
The women’s competition was won by Katya Reitdorf of Born to Bike in a time of 1:56:05, closely followed by Becky Murley of Wisbech Wheelers in 1:57:51 with Joy Payne of Amersham Road CC rounding off the podium with 2:03:55.
The long trip down from the Peak District was made all the more worthwhile for Buxton CC’s riders Matt Ivings, Tom Thornely and Chris Lea who took the team prize with a total time of 5:20:53.
