The Time Trial season kick off in fine style for many riders at the Cycling Club Breckland open 10 mile Time Trial, held on the B10/19 course which runs from just outside of Hingham to Carbrooke and back. On a sunny Saturday afternoon in early March riders were blessed with warm conditions of 15 degrees, although a strong south westerly wind was present, time were fast and the competition was close. The event was won by Cambridge C C rider David McGaw in a course record breaking time of 20.30 beating the previous record by 39 seconds, in second place was Daniel Bloy of Team Velo Velocity in 21.02, third spot was taken by Jim Burgess of Anglia Velo in 21.13 who was also fastest veteran on standard with an age plus of 4.56 it was a good day for Team Velo Velocity with 5 rider in the top 10 they were comfortable winners of the team prize with a three rider (Daniel Bloy, Paul Jay & Scott Davidson) combined time of 1.04.57 The event had 8 lady entrants the fastest of these was V C Norwich’s Sally Withey (25.48) ahead of another Team Velo Velocity rider Francesca Rust (25.57) and V C Norwich’s Louise Marsden (26.49) For the promoting Club, Cycling Club Breckland’s 17 year old Junior Rider Declan Davis was the quickest in 23.56 just ahead of Super Veteran Chris Nudds (66) his time of 23.59 gave him second spot on age standard with a plus time of 4.24, other Breckland riders were Mick Wood 25.16, Event Secretary Mark Fairhead 26.00, Nick Gyde 26.45, Nick Parravani 27.15 Breckland’s Harvey Hall started but was unable to finish and Roger Graham had the misfortune of having his handlebars break on the start line and took a tumble but luckily was un hurt.
Cycling Club Breckland starts their summer series of Club Time Trials on the 25th March with a 5 mile event at Scoulton starting at 6.30pm.
