It was a tough day of racing for Cycling Club Breckland Time Trialist’s Chris Nudds, Mark Fairhead, Declan Davis & Harvey Hall who
all travelled down to Stetchworth near Newmarket to race in the 25 mile Veteran time trial association event on the sporting E33/25 course, 2 laps of an undulating course made more difficult by a strong headwind after the first turn towards Six Mile Bottom, and head/side wind up to the second turn, although many rider reported hitting speeds of over 40 mph on the descent off the A11 Fly over. Chris rode extremely well to finish second veteran on standard time (+9.44) to win the Stourvale Shield as best East Anglian VTTA member on standard, his time was also 10th fastest overall. Mark Fairhead riding his first 25 mile event of the season struggled in the windy conditions his time of 1.08.21 place him 16th in the veterans event. Overall winner of the stratch event was Ashley Cox of Luton C C in an impressive time of 53.30, 25 seconds ahead of Time Trialling supremo Michael Hutchinson of Ingear-Quickvit-Triansharp.
Breckland’s young duo of Declan Davis and Harvey Hall paired up once more for the two man Team Time Trial event, both riding fixed wheel found the conditions tough going and had to settle for 5th place with a time of 1.02.50. Winning the team event was Glen Taylor of ShorterRochford and Keith Dorling of Bishops Stortford C C in 58.59.
