Josh Charlton and Isabel Sharp were crowned winners at the National Youth Championship finals, staged over the popular B10/3A on Saturday.
Charlton, the 15-year-old Hetton Hawks CC rider from Durham, clocked 19:31 to take victory by just one second ahead of Poole Wheeler’s Thomas Day with Tom Portsmouth of Weybridge CC only a further 16 seconds behind, while fastest female was 13-year-old Poole Wheelers rider Isabel Sharp whose time of 22:04 was best by 16 seconds.
Poole Wheeler’s impressive show of force, including 2 podium finishers, granted them the Team Prize and Junior Team Competition record with a combined time of 1:01:52.
Arthur Hitchin of Ipswich CC was the fastest of the local riders finishing 67th with a time of 23:30, with Bethany Barnett of Kings Lynn CC the fastest local female with a time of 24:18.
Elsewhere this weekend Mark Fairhead fought an unforgiving headwind in Saturday’s Cambridge CC 25, finishing in 1:01:10. In the Norwich ABC 10 Nick Paravanni put in a solid performance of 26:22.
