From Simon Robinson – about his 12 year old son Oliver.
An amazing achievement – well done Oliver !!!!!!
It is with great pride that I inform you of Oliver’s massive cycling achievement these last two weekends that he completed with his dad. These are continuous rides only stopping for food and drink along the way and answering questions and getting the brevet card stamped, as proof of passage.
Sunday the 19th June Oliver completed a 311km/193mile audax cycle ride in 16hrs44min. You have 20hrs44min to complete.
With an early 02.00am start and completing by 18.44pm.
Starting from Bathersden in Kent, calling in at St Mary’s Bay, Golden Green nr. Hadlow, Iden Green, Dungeness and Hythe, before returning to Bethersden. Plus 7 information controls along the way.
Saturday the 25th June Oliver completed a 420km/260mile audax ride in 25hrs10min. You have 27hrs44min to complete.
With another early start Saturday 06.00am, cycling through the night, (1 ½ hrs sleep on a hard bit of concrete) and completing Sunday 07.10am.
Starting from Aldbrough St John, nr Darlington, calling at Stamford Bridge, Howden, down to Lincoln before heading back up north calling at York, Rippon and back to Aldbrough St John.
We will be doing a 600km/372miles audax in September. 40hrs to complete.
This will be a completion for obtaining the Super Randonneur Series Medal. Which consists of completing a 200km (of which Oliver has done 2), 300km, 400km and a 600km in a single season.
He has also completed 5 x 100km audax rides this season as well.
Considering Oliver only took up cycling in February of this year, it’s a huge credit to his fitness, courage and determination.
Well done my boy
